Fathers Day Treasure Hunt Ideas
Father’s Day is one of those lovely days where kids get so excited to spoil Dad… but sometimes it helps to have a fun plan ready to go. That’s where a treasure hunt comes in!
A Father’s Day treasure hunt turns the day into an adventure. Kids get to hide clues, Dad gets to follow them, and everyone ends up laughing, moving around, and sharing a sweet moment together. It’s simple, low prep, and one of those activities that always gets big smiles.
If you already have printable treasure hunts ready, you’re already halfway there. Let’s walk through exactly how to use them, how to set them up, and how to make the day extra special.
What is a Father’s Day Treasure Hunt?
A Father’s Day treasure hunt is a clue-based game where Dad follows a trail of small hints around the house or garden. Each clue leads to the next spot until he reaches a final surprise gift or treat.
It can be:
- Riddles
- Short written clues
- Picture clues for younger kids
- Simple “look here next” hints
The goal is simple: make Dad feel special while the family enjoys a shared activity together.
How the printable treasure hunts work
We have two printable Fathers Day Treasure Hunt options:
- Father’s Day Treasure Hunt
- Father’s Day Treasure Hunt (Blue version)
Both are designed to make setup super easy. Each one includes a set of ready-made clues that guide Dad step-by-step through the house until he reaches his final surprise.
What you need:
- Printed clue cards
- Scissors
- A small “final prize” for Dad
Before you start:
Read the suggested hiding places for each treasure hunt. Walk through your home and decide where each clue will go.
How to set up the treasure hunt
Here’s a simple setup method that works every time:
1. Print and cut the clues
Print your chosen treasure hunt and cut out each clue card carefully. Keep them in order so you don’t get mixed up.
2. Hide the clues
You will give Clue 1 to Dad to begin the hunt. So where clue 1 will lead Dad to, is where you will hide clue 2 and so on.
For example, in our Fathers Day Treasure Hunt the first clue reads;
I wanted to do something special for you
to thankyou so much for all that you do
To get your first clue and start this game
Find your reflection inside a frame
On the answer sheet, the suggested hiding place is a mirror. So you would place clue 2 on a mirror.
Clue 2 reads:
You are the best dad that I could hope for
Find your next clue by the backdoor
So you would hide clue 3 somewhere by the backdoor. You can make this as easy or hard to find as you want!
In our other Blue Fathers Day Treasure hunt, clue 1 reads:
DAD YOU ARE BRAVE AND STRONG
FIND YOUR NEXT CLUE
WHERE YOU HEAR YOUR FAVOURITE SONG
The answer sheet suggests beside a speaker but you know your Dad best, so you could hide the next clue near his headphones, armchair or anywhere Dad likes to listen to music.
Clue 2 reads;
ONE DAY I HOPE TO BE JUST LIKE YOU
LOOK BESIDE THE KITCHEN SINK
FOR YOUR NEXT CLUE

Hide clues around the backyard or garden. Great for sunny days and gives more space for movement.

Each clue is based on a family memory, like:
