Valentine’s Day always has a special place in my heart – it was the one day of the year that I could make something handmade with my kids and show them how much they mean to me. Now, we spend many of our evenings crafting fun Valentine’s Day cards, decorations, and treats.

It is so rewarding to see how excited my children get when they get to scour craft stores for seasonal goodies and start getting creative with their ideas! Crafting together on Valentine’s Day is a wonderful way to keep us connected as well as remind us why each other means so much to us.

Valentine’s Day is a great time to get creative with your kids. It’s the perfect opportunity to have some quality time and make something special together. Here are some fun and easy projects that will keep tweens (ages 8-12) busy and entertained.

DIY Heart Garland

This DIY Heart Garland is an inexpensive way to decorate for Valentine’s Day. All you need is cardstock, glue, ribbon, and a hole punch. You can even have your kids write sweet messages on the hearts such as “love you” and “be mine” then hang the garland anywhere in your home for a festive touch.

Foam Stamps

Let your tweens create personalized cards for their friends and family with Foam Stamps! Using foam sheets, cookie cutters, scissors, Sharpie markers, and craft sticks, they can easily make custom stamps in any shape they want.

Give them free rein to be as creative as possible when designing their stamps,the sky’s the limit! Once they have finished making their stamps, have them design cards using paint or construction paper.

Tissue Paper Roses

Tissue paper roses are a classic Valentine’s Day craft and they make great decorations or gifts. The best part is that they can be made with just tissue paper, scissors and pipe cleaners .Have your tweens create colorful roses in any size they want! They also make great additions to any homemade gift or card.

  1. Simply cut the tissue paper into 5-inch (or desired size) squares. 
  2. Place two sheets of tissue paper together and fold them in an accordion shape. If you want to create a fuller rose, use more layers of tissue paper; if you want a smaller rose, use fewer layers. 
  3. Secure the ends of the accordion tissue paper with a pipe cleaner or florist wire. 
  4. Gently separate each layer of tissue paper and fluff out the rose. 
  5. (Optional) Wrap the stem of your rose with a ribbon for an extra special touch.
