Pirate Party Games for Kids

A pirate party is always a hit with kids! Whether you're planning for preschoolers or a room full of rowdy 10-year-olds, these pirate-themed games will have them giggling, running, and playing like true treasure hunters.

Walk the Plank

Create a “plank” using a wooden board or a piece of cardboard laid over a small kiddie pool, tarp, or blue sheet (to look like the sea). The goal? Walk the plank without falling into the water! Want more laughs? Blindfold the kids or have them wear pirate hats and eye patches as they balance.

Pin the Eyepatch on the Pirate

A pirate twist on “Pin the Tail on the Donkey!” Draw a big pirate face on a poster and cut out eyepatches. Blindfold each child, spin them gently, and let them try to place the patch on the pirate’s eye. Close counts… maybe.

Printable Pirate Treasure Hunt

Every great pirate party needs a treasure hunt! Use printable clue cards and hide small treasures (chocolate coins, plastic gems, stickers) around your house or yard. For extra fun, leave a chocolate coin at each clue. The final “X” marks the spot for a treasure chest filled with goodies!

Try this fun printable pirate treasure hunt. Simply cut out the clue cards and place around the house in the suggested hiding places.

Cannonball Toss

Use bean bags or black balloons as “cannonballs” and set up a few buckets or pirate-themed containers. Kids toss the cannonballs into the buckets. To level up, use smaller buckets each round!

Pirate Ship Battleship

Draw a grid on poster board labeled with numbers and letters. Each player has mini pirate ships (paper cutouts or toys) to hide. Players take turns calling out coordinates to try and sink their opponent’s ships!

Pirate Freeze Dance

Turn up the pirate tunes and have a dance-off! When the music stops, kids must freeze in their best pirate pose. Anyone who moves is out! Keep going until there’s one jolly winner.

Jolly Roger Balloon Pop

Blow up black balloons. Decorate some with white skull and crossbones (Jolly Rogers). Scatter the balloons and let kids stomp or sit to pop the plain ones. The goal? Collect as many Jolly Roger balloons as they can!

Kids Pirate Party

Parrot Relay Race

Split the kids into teams and hand each team a stuffed parrot. They must carry the parrot between their knees while hopping through a race course. Drop the parrot? Back to the start, me hearties!

Treasure Island Tag

One child is the pirate with a soft foam sword. Everyone else are treasure hunters. When tagged, they become pirates too! Keep going until one treasure hunter is left.

Build Your Own Pirate Ship

Grab cardboard boxes, tape, markers, and get crafty! Teams build their own pirate ships, complete with sails and flags. Once built, they can have a pretend ship race or pirate showdown.

Pirate Dress-Up Challenges

Set up a pirate dress-up station with hats, patches, swords, and bandanas. Add silly challenges like walking the plank or dancing while in full pirate gear!

Pirate-Themed Board Games

Wind down the party with a pirate board game session. Great choices:

  • Walk the Plank

  • Pirate’s Fortune

  • The Pirates of Nassau

Perfect for quieter moments or indoor parties.

Pirate Party Games for Teens

Got older kids or tweens who are too cool for cannonballs? Try these pirate games that bring in a little competition and creativity!

Pirate Code Challenge

Make up a pirate “language” or code. Give players a secret message to decode and follow the clues. Think escape room meets buried treasure!

Sea Shanty Showdown

Divide into teams and write your own silly sea shanty. Then, perform it for the group using props and pirate voices. Bonus points for rhyming and dramatic pirate flair!

Pirate Party Games for Adults

Pirate parties aren’t just for kids! Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or just hosting a theme night with your crew, these adult pirate party games will have everyone shouting, “Aye aye, Captain!”

Pirate Trivia Night

Test your mates’ pirate knowledge! Use pirate-themed trivia questions like:

  • Who was the most feared pirate?

  • What’s a “Jolly Roger”?
Split into teams and keep score. Winner gets a bottle of rum, or a gold chocolate coin!

Rum Tasting Table

Set up a tasting station with several types of rum. Include tasting cards so guests can rate their favorites. This one’s perfect for breaking the ice and feeling extra fancy!

Adult Pirate Scavenger Hunt

Create a list of pirate-y items (like a rubber ducky for a parrot or a red bandana). Guests race to find them around the house or yard. First to finish gets bragging rights and a treasure (gift card, treat, etc.).

Shipwrecked (Pool Party Game)

If it’s summer, this one’s a splash! Divide into teams and give them pool noodles, floaties, and tape to build a “raft.” Race across the pool to see who survives the shipwreck! Play this early, before the rum flows.

Pirate Karaoke

Set up karaoke with sea shanties or songs that sound fun in a pirate accent. Add costumes and props for extra laughs. Even shy guests will be singing “Yo ho ho!”

Pirate Photo Booth

Set up a photo booth area with pirate-themed props like hats, eye patches, and foam swords. Encourage your guests to take silly photos and post them on social media with your party hashtag.

Pirate Drinking Games

Disclaimer: Drink responsibly, and make sure everyone stays safe!

Adults Pirate Party

Pirate Ring Toss Shot Game

Set up a wooden board with shot glasses and pegs. If you land the ring on the peg, you drink that shot! Easy and fun.

Pirate Pong

A classic with a twist! Like beer pong, but play while wearing an eye patch or pirate hat. Use “planks” on the table for added pirate drama.

Walk the Plank (Drinking Version)

Set up a plank across a kiddie pool or tarp. Before crossing, draw a random challenge (like “talk like a pirate while balancing”), fail and you take a sip!

Treasure Hunt Drinking Game

Hide small bottles of alcohol around the party area and provide clues for your guests to find them. Once they find a bottle, they have to take a shot before moving on to the next clue.

Captain’s Orders

Like Simon Says but pirate-style. The captain shouts out commands like “Swab the deck!” If the command starts with “Captain’s Orders,” everyone must follow, or drink!

Quick Tips for a Legendary Pirate Party:

  • Use pirate music playlists to set the mood

  • Hand out pirate names at the start (Captain Crabby, Sneaky Peg-Leg, etc.)

  • Give out pirate tattoos or stickers as party favors

  • Don’t forget snacks like “fish & chips,” “gold coin” candies, and cupcakes with skull toppers!

Whether you’ve got a crew of tiny scallywags or a ship full of adult buccaneers, these pirate party games will bring laughter, adventure, and a whole lot of “ARRR!” to your event. With a little creativity (and maybe a parrot or two), your party will be one they’ll talk about long after the ship has sailed.
