As any parent knows, keeping a tidy bedroom can be a challenge for tweens and teens. However, there are some simple strategies that can help to keep the space clean and organized. First, urge your child to make the bed each morning. This will help to set the tone for the rest of the day and make it easier to keep the floor clear.
Next, encourage your child to put away clothes and toys after using them. A designated place for each item will make it easy to know where everything belongs. Finally, ask your child to do a quick clean-up before going to bed each night. This will help to prevent the bedroom from becoming a cluttered mess. By following these simple tips, you can help your tween or teen keep their bedroom clean and tidy.

Do you have a teenager that you find hard to get motivated to tidy their bedroom? Does it always seem like such a chore to try and get them to put anything away? If this sounds familiar, then don’t worry – you’re not alone. It can be difficult to get teenagers to take pride in their personal space and keep it tidy, but it’s important to try. A messy bedroom can lead to a lot of stress and anxiety, so it’s essential to do what you can to help your teenager keep their space clean.
Ways of Keeping Your Teens Space Clean
Having a bedroom cleaning checklist is a great way to ensure that you’re covering all the bases when it comes to cleaning your room. But what should be on that checklist? Here are a few things to consider:
1. Make Your Bed Every Morning
This is probably the most important step on the list. Making your bed first thing in the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day and makes your room look and feel a lot more put-together. Plus, it only takes a couple of minutes!
Have you every seen that video from US Navy Admiral McRaven about making his bed? In the video he says if you make your bed every day, you have achieved a task. Which usually leads to another task being achieved and another, BUT if nothing else gets achieved that day then you have achieved one task. My teen daughter makes her bed religiously everyday so she knows she has achieved her 1 task/goal for the day plus she loves going to bed in a nicely made bed.
2. Do A Quick Pick-Up Before Going to Bed
Before you go to sleep at night, take a few minutes to pick up any clothes or items that are out of place. This will help you start the next day with a clean slate. It’s always a relief to wake up to a clean and tidy room. But who has the time or energy to tidy up before going to bed?
By taking a few minutes to pick up any clothes or items that are out of place before you go to sleep, you can start the next day with a clean slate. Not only will this save you time in the morning, but it will also help you to feel more organized and in control of your day.
So next time you’re exhausted after a long day, try resist the urge to just collapse into bed. Taking a few minutes to straighten up first will make all the difference when you wake up tomorrow.
3. Put Away Clothes After Wearing Them
As soon as you take off your clothes, put them in the laundry basket or hang them up. This will prevent your bedroom from becoming a cluttered mess. It’s also a good idea to have a designated place for each item of clothing so that you know where everything belongs. That way, you can easily grab what you need when you’re getting dressed in the morning.
If your clothes are always ending up in a pile on the floor, then it’s time to take action. Put away clothes as soon as you take them off and have a designated place for each item of clothing. That way, you can easily grab what you need when you’re getting dressed in the morning and your bedroom will stay tidy.
4. Don’t Let Dishes Pile Up
If you have a sink in your bedroom, make sure to wash your dishes regularly and don’t let them pile up. If you don’t have a sink, be sure to bring your dishes to the kitchen as soon as possible so they don’t start to stink up your room.
5. Keep Your Floors Clean
Vacuum or sweep your floors regularly to keep them free of dust and dirt. If you have carpet, be sure to vacuum at least once a week. A clean home is a happy home. At least, that’s what my mom used to say. And she was right – there’s nothing like coming home to a clean and orderly house after a long day at work. Of course, keeping your floors clean can be a bit of a challenge. But with a little effort, it can be done.
Vacuuming and sweeping regularly are the key to keeping dust and dirt at bay. If you have carpet, be sure to vacuum at least once a week. For hardwood floors, sweeping and mopping will do the trick. And don’t forget to dust your furniture and baseboards on a regular basis as well. With a little elbow grease, you can keep your floors looking pristine all year round.
Getting a bedroom cleaning checklist can be as easy as downloading a printable PDF or looking online for one that you can use as a guide.
