Catch the Ghosts

Supplies

Instructions

  • Prior to the game, twist the tops of several pieces of tissue paper (individually) to make the heads of ghosts.
  • Tie a ribbon or string around the head of the ghost and draw on some eyes or attach googly eyes.
  • Place the tissue paper ghosts in a bucket or basket.
  • Stand at the top of a set of stairs and dump the tissue paper ghosts out of the bucket or basket over the railing.
  • Tell the toddlers to "catch the ghosts!"
  • Repeat over and over and over again until you are too tired to climb the stairs anymore!
Halloween Ghosts

Eyeball Mini-Golf

Supplies

  • white ping pong balls, each with a black eyeball drawn on it
  • yard sticks
  • empty jars and buckets

Instructions

  • Toddlers will set the ping pong eyeballs on the floor and lightly tap them with the yard sticks, attempting to send the ping pong eyeballs into the jars and buckets.
  • You can set up an obstacle course of sorts by setting chairs around the room and having the toddlers putt the balls through the bottoms of the chairs.

Halloween DIY Craft Pages

Supplies

  • Printable Sheets
  • Paint or ink pads

Instructions

  • It is super easy to create cute Halloween keepsakes by adding your child's handprint, footprint and fingerprints to these Halloween themed pages
  • You can either use paint or ink pads (which are a little less messy!)

Halloween Handprint Craft

Monster Mash Freeze Dance

Supplies

  • CD player
  • Monster Mash or other Halloween tunes

Instructions

  • Clear out an area of your room, so that there is plenty of space for the toddlers to let loose.
  • Start the Monster Mash music.
  • Tell the toddlers to dance like monsters! Demonstrate with silly Frankenstein or robot moves and silly expressions on your face. Remind the toddlers that when the music stops, they need to FREEZE!
  • Stop the music and freeze.
  • Repeat.

Musical Pumpkins

This is slightly varied from normal Musical Chairs, so that everyone is winner each time this Halloween game for toddlers is played. 

Supplies

  • as many pumpkins as you have toddlers
  • CD player
  • Halloween music

Instructions

  • Place the pumpkins in a large circle.
  • Have each toddler stand next to a pumpkin.
  • Start the music.
  • Begin walking around the pumpkins with the children. Slowly, if possible.
  • Stop the music.
  • Quick! Everyone sit on a pumpkin!

Ghosts in the Graveyard

This is a classic game that can be played with just a few kids or a large group. You can also reuse the ghosts you made for the 'Catch the Ghost' game, making the set up for this game super easy.

Supplies (or reuse the 'Catch the Ghost' ghosts)

  • White tissue paper or Kleenex
  • Sharpie Pen
  • Ribbon or string
  • Googly eyes (optional)

Instructions

  • Prior to the game, twist the tops of several pieces of tissue paper (individually) to make the heads of ghosts.
  • Tie a ribbon or string around the top of the 'ghost'
  • You can add googly eyes or draw on a ghost face.
  • Hide these ghosts around your house or yard and let the toddlers go and find them.
  • When all of the ghosts have been found, race back to home base

Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin

This is a twist on the classic game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey.

Supplies 

  • Large paper pumpkin
  • 'Noses' cut out of sticker paper
  • Blindfold

Instructions

  • Blindfold each child in turn
  • Spin them around 3 times and let them try to pin the nose on the pumpkin
  • For younger children you can skip the blindfold and just let them try to pin their nose in the correct place

Hot Potato with a Halloween Twist

This classic game is perfect for a large group of kids.

Supplies 

  • A small pumpkin or Halloween themed soft toy
  • Small prizes 
  • Halloween music

Instructions

  • Sit everyone in a circle, play the music and begin passing around your pumpkin or halloween toy
  • When the music stops, whoever is holding the toy will win a small prize
  • Continue playing until everyone has had a turn at winning a prize
  • Halloween stickers make great prizes for this game

Pumpkin Pumpkin Jack-o-Lantern

This is a variation of Duck Duck Goose.

Supplies

  • nothing is needed for this game

Instructions

  • Sit the children in a large circle.
  • Choose one child to be it and walk around the circle with him or her, tapping the other children on the head, saying pumpkin, pumpkin and so on until choosing someone and yelling jack-o-lantern while tapping him or her on the head.
  • Run! The other child gets up and runs the opposite direction around the circle.
  • The first person back to the the empty spot, sits. The other child now is it.
